앞서 당내 '민주연대'는 "6.2 지방선거는 반드시 승리해야 하는 역사적 변곡점"이라면서 "2002년 국민참여 경선의 신화는 자랑스러운 역사"라면서 당심과 민심이 함께 전달되는 역동적 경선이 지방선거 승리의 근간이라고 강조했다.
또한 당 지도부에 "당원과 국민이 참여하는 역동적 경선, 일방적 추대가 아닌 공개 토론회 개최 등 후보자의 검증과정이 선행되어야 한다"고 촉구했다.
