중화동에서 뉴타운 문제로 여러 분들을 뵈었던게 지난달.
이 지역에서 뉴타운을 둘러싼 찬반 대립은 벌써 수년째. 당시 얻어갔던 수확은 그 때 말씀드렸었지요.
추진위에선 뭔가 타협의 희망을 감지했고, 뉴타운을 반대하던 비상대책위원회 분들에게선
그간 얼마나 불신과 반감의 골이 크게 벌어졌고 또 시급하게 풀 과제인지를 누차 확인했습니다.
그리고 해답을 찾겠노라 다짐한게 벌써 한달여.
다짐을 했으니 답을 드려야죠. 그래서 8일, 또 한번 찾아갔습니다.
비상대책위원회에서도 뭔가 합의의 여지를 발견할 수 있을까 하는 기대를 품고서.
솔직히 말하면 한달여간 무척 고민했습니다. '뉴타운은 싫다, 이젠 믿지 않겠다'는 분들.
7년간의 싸움에서 거듭 그것만 확인하듯 되뇌었던 분들에게 무엇을 보여드리면 좋을까라는 되뇌임.
솔직히 말하죠. 쉽지가 않은 걸음이었습니다.
반면 '뉴타운'은 있는 자와 없는 자의 갈등만 심화시켜 왔다.
그냥 두자니 시간은 결정의 추를 점차 무거이 내려놓는다.
급히 결론 내려하면 주민들의 골은 더욱 깊게 한다.
솔직히 말하죠. 그래도 찾아가야 한다는 사명감은 도무지 이를 미룰수 없게 했습니다.
주민들은 내게 무언가를 기대하고 있다.
나는 주민들의 '그냥 내버려둬'란 말을 그냥 묻어둘 수도, 그렇다고 해서 합의의 가능성을 포기할 수도 없다.
종용할 권한은 없다.
그렇다고 외면할 권한도 없다.
나는 서울시장 예비후보다.
솔직히 말하죠. 그것은 제게 있어 피할 길 없는 길이었습니다.
나는 정치인이다.
주민들은 현재, 또 지난 시장들에 고개를 젓고 있다.
나는 예비 시장이다.

됐습니다.
웰타운을 발표한 날, 맨먼저 만나 본 중화동 주민들은 제 이야기를 경청 후 또 많은 이야기를 꺼냈습니다.
"지금은 찬반 모두 이해문제로 대립하는 만큼, 양 측이
확실히 승복할 수 있는 법제도의 정비가 필요하다"
라고 하셨습니다.
또 "무리한 부탁일지 모르나 주민들에게 제안 및 동의를 구할 땐
확실하고 신뢰할 수 있는 견적을 내보임으로써 진정한 동의서를 받아야 할 것"이라고 요구했습니다. 전 당연한 요구라고 고개를
끄덕였습니다.
"언제까지 우리가
이렇듯 싸워야 하느냐"는 질문, "여기
분들이 7년간 싸우다 보니 이젠 전문가가 됐다"는 말은
또 한번 문제의 시급함을 복기하게 합니다.
