제가 남산에 오른 횟수를 따지자면 못해도 천번은 더 되지 싶어요. 산 오르는걸 좋아하다 보니 그렇게 됐네요. 그래도 새해 첫날 부서지는 햇살을 맞이하는 기분은 여느 때와 다릅니다.
영하 10도 내외였죠? 올해 들어 제일 추운... 이런, 올해라 해봤자 오늘이 처음인가? 여하튼 추운 날씨 속에서도 저 하늘처럼 비취색 꿈을 안고 산을 올랐습니다.
감히 가슴에 품어봅니다. 저 아래 보이는 천만 도시, 서울을요. 제게 허락해 주시겠습니까. 4년간의 시정을.
새해 첫날 아침을 어떻게 지내셨는지요. 그냥 따뜻한 이불 안에서 TV를 켜고 평안한 안식을 취하셨나요? 아니면 동네 약수터에라도 올라가 첫
해를 보셨나요. 어디라도 상관없겠지요. 곁에 함께 할 식구가 있다면 행복감은 어디에나 내려앉아 있을 테니.

저와 다른 역사의 순간 세상에 나고 졌던 호국영령들이시여, 비록 같은 시류 속에서 부대낄 수는 없었지만 여전히 이승을 내려다 보신다면,
제게 올해를 어떤 해보다 경건하고도 무겁게, 용기있게 맞이할 수 있게 힘을
